The United States launched airstrikes against Yemeni cities controlled by Iran -backed Houthi militants over the weekend .

Houthi-run media reported that bombs struck the Yemeni capital of Sanaa , as well as targets in the governorates of al-Jawf and Saada .

The strikes came a day after the U.S. increased its retaliation against the Houthis by hitting their general command headquarters.
