L.A. Deputy Mayor Brian Williams was not on the job in the weeks leading up to the wildfires because he was raided by the FBI

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass ' deputy mayor was in charge of overseeing the city’s fire department.

He was placed on leave after he was raided by the FBI less than three weeks before the historic wildfires erupted.

Bass has also been criticized for cutting millions of dollars from the city's fire department budget.

The mayor pledged in 2021 to never take international trips if elected as mayor.
