Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch extended the recovery time for McDavid on Wednesday .

Oilers captain was expected to sit out for the week , along with Leon Draisaitl , who suffered an undisclosed injury in a 7 -1 win last Tuesday .

“I’m optimistic that he will be available, with the type of player he is and how he can help us,” Knoblauch said.

“Things have been going well, there have been no setbacks, which I think is very important. I think we haven’t had any setbacks with him, he’s progressing nicely.”.
