Edmonton police officer who failed to find a body at a homicide scene was demoted.
Const. Paul Kelly was part of a crime scene investigation team that searched the home after Nexhmi Nuhi , 76 , was shot through the basement door.
Police concluded their initial investigation and returned the basement to the property owner.
Four days later , police found the body of Blayne Burnstick hidden in a garbage bag.
Kelly was charged with neglect of duty for failing to find Burnstick ’s body.
He was found guilty of 10 of 14 counts, including deceit.
Kelly ’s case came up in allegations made by suspended detective Dan Behiels , who claimed an investigation into Shah fell apart because of how EPS handled Kelly 's disciplinary issues.
Shah was gunned down in his driveway in 2022 in a case that remains unsolved.
The Calgary police anticorruption unit probed the claims and according to EPS “found no criminality or evidence of corruption by the EPS and its members”.
