‘Intensely hot’: heatwave continues in south-eastern states as fires threaten regional Victoria

In Adelaide, temperatures reached 40.3C C by mid afternoon , with a forecast high of 41C , following a top of 39C on Sunday .

Melbourne recorded 37.7C at 3:30pm on Monday , with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting a 39C top.

The last time Melbourne had three days in a row over 37C was in 2014 .

In Western Australia , another surge of heat is building, pushing temperatures well above average across much of the state’s south by Thursday and Friday .
