Theoretically, Oregon has limited solar development on productive agricultural land.

But in reality, solar developers can and do apply for an exception from either the state or a county to build much bigger solar projects on valuable farmland.

The state just approved Oregon ’s largest solar project so far: the nearly 10,000-acre Sunstone Solar array.

The Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development is working to establish new voluntary guidelines to help counties in eastern Oregon identify sites for solar projects.

They're hoping to hear from people who live in and care about rural Oregon .

“As these projects actually move forward and get built and people experience the impact in their backyard,” Esterston said.
