A series of large "earth rings" are located on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country in the suburb of Sunbury , Victoria .
They represent large scale feats of human endeavour and represent the ancient connection Aboriginal people have to Country.
Earth rings are understood to represent secret and sacred locations of initiation and ceremony for different Aboriginal language groups.
The Victorian Department of Energy , Environment and Climate Action (formerly known as the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning ) funded this study.
Caroline Spry is the Co-manager and Principal Heritage Advisor at Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation .
Her research has been funded by the Australian Government , universities, foundations and government agencies.
