•Fires scorched campuses across Los Angeles. Now many schools seek places to hold classes
74% Informative
Thousands of students lost their homes in the same fire that destroyed their school.
"It feels kind of like the first day of school," third -grader Gabriela Chevez-Munoz says.
"I am happy, but of course, there's a lot of grief," she says.
Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto Carvalho says it may take more than two years to rebuild.
"I feel so out of it, every day . Do I cry? Do I mourn the loss of my home and school? I am trying not to think about it," one student says.
The school is looking at other campuses, nearby universities and commercial real estate spaces.
The only thing that survived the fire was the school's chicken coop, and its five chickens.
