Dr Bowyer says plastics and climate change are linked to each other in two ways.
The presence of the plastic pollution exacerbates the impacts of climate change, she says.
A plastics treaty is needed to address these challenges, she adds.
“The need for decisive international action to tackle plastic pollution has never been more urgent”.
