74% Informative
System in question is called WR 140 , and incorporates two massive stars that will both ultimately go supernova.
Shells of carbon dust are expanding outward from a duo of massive stars.
At their closest point, called periastron, the two stars are just 1.3 astronomical units (AU) from each other.
If carbon-rich dust can survive the termination of the WolfRayet star, we may be looking at the creation of the very starstuff that goes on to form life.
The new JWST imagery and findings were presented at the 245th meeting of the American Astronomical Society .
