Marni Panas launched a complaint against the Edmonton Police Service after 911 operators misgendered her during a 2019 call.
Panas made the call after a friend failed to check in while on a date.
One of the operators, former vice detective David Schening , repeatedly called Panas “sir” and “buddy,” including after being corrected.
Schening continued to make comments after the welfare check had been dispatched, including assuming Panas ’s friend was a sex worker.
Postmedia reached out to EPS for comment but did not hear back by publication time.
