More than a million simulated images show the cosmos as NASA 's upcoming Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will see it.

The project relied on the now-retired Theta supercomputer at the DOE 's ( Department of Energy's ) Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois .

The resulting simulated images span 70 square degrees , equivalent to an area of sky covered by more than 300 full moons.

Roman will send back far too much data for scientists to comb through.

"Simulations are super useful for figuring that out." Provided by NASA .
