The ID. Buzz is a welcome return to the van-like passenger car concept.

It builds on what we left behind in the Noughties the Buzz is an MPV done properly.

From the driver’s seat it's like sitting in the cockpit of a between-the-wars cargo plane.

The interior is pretty much the same as the standard van and quite lovely.

The performance is brisk, with great acceleration from standstill ( 0-62mph in 7.9sec ) and a top speed of 99mph .

But the ride is well damped and smooth, but the weight ( 2,795kg ) is ever-present and the wheels clump through sharp-edged bumps.

Despite the power-assisted steering, there’s a lot of heft required.

And the range? The quoted 3.01 miles per kWh and 286-mile range isn’t scintillating.

The Tourneo Custom Kombi comes in an incredible number of derivatives, from petrol to diesel, auto to manual, front-, rear- and all-wheel drive.

An extra-long version costs 93,905 . Expect a range of 222 miles from the 91kWh battery.
