House Speaker Mike Johnson and House GOP leaders are struggling to devise a fallback plan to keep the government open.

With less than 36 hours to go before a shutdown deadline, they have no plan, or even a concept of a plan, for what’s next.

They are not negotiating with Democrats , despite needing their support to pass a law.

House Democratic leaders excoriated Johnson and his team for reneging on a bipartisan deal.

Rep. Troy Nehls , R- Texas , said even “the Lord Jesus would have a very difficult time managing this conference” Rep. Mike Lawler said it is “very clear, Donald Trump is in charge” and that Republicans need Democratic support for a bill.

Musk calls for shutting down the government until Jan. 20 , when Republicans will control Congress .
