Nickel Boys is an adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize -winning novel.

Director RaMell Ross is best known for his 2018 documentary Hale County This Morning, This Evening.

The result is stunning and resembles less a conventional documentary and more impressionistic video art you might find at a contemporary art museum.

Filming the film adaptation of a novel called Nickel Boys took place in first person.

Director and cinematographer Jomo Fray had to rethink the language of film “on a quantum level” Most of the shots were filmed by Fray , Sam Ellison and Sam Ellison .

Nickel Boys stars Brandon Herisse and Brandon Wilson as Elwood Turner's POV characters.

Filmmaker Brandon Fray describes the film as an extension of his body of work.

Ross estimates that 90 percent of what he storyboarded and scripted shows up exactly that way in the final thing.
