•Why a vote about notifying parents of overdoses is becoming an issue in special election
75% Informative
Democrat Kannan Srinivasan and Republican Tumay Harding are facing off in a special election in Loudoun County which will determine which party controls the State Senate in Virginia .
A top issue in the race is the drug epidemic that’s impacting kids in Loudou County , Va. This year , a bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced the legislation that would have required Virginia schools to notify parents within 24 hours of student overdoses.
Many of those overdoses involved students who attend Park View High School .
The original version of House Bill 1504 included the 24-hour mandatory notice to parents, but it was taken out of the bill by House Democrats and the bill’s chief patron Democratic Del. Holly Seibold .
Loudoun County Public Schools and its allies lobbied against the legislation.
