Huge, 7-mile scar torn across Australia's Nullarbor Plain discovered by caver scouring Google Earth

A caver discovered an enormous, mysterious scar etched into the Nullarbor Plain in southern Australia .

The scar is 11 kilometers long and between 525 and 820 feet ( 160 and 250 meters ) wide.

It bears striking patterns called "cycloidal marks", formed by tornado suction vortexes.

The tornado probably lasted between seven and 13 minutes and was likely to last longer.

Matej Lipar is Adjunct Research Fellow in Curtin’s School of Earth and Planetary Sciences .

He is head of the Department of Physical Geography at the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts .

The results are a stark reminder that extreme weather can strike anywhere, anytime.
