•Convicted murderer Thomas Svekla denied parole after 18 years in prison

Thomas Svekla is serving a life sentence with no chance of parole for 17 years for the second -degree murder of Theresa Innes .
He was also a one -time suspect in half-a-dozen homicides of vulnerable women.
The Parole Board of Canada found he remains a threat despite nearly 18 years behind bars.
The board cited a psychiatric assessment from April finding the former mechanic remains a high risk for sexual recidivism.
Parole board members Tracy Buffalo and Amy Agar heard Thomas Svekla’s case.
Board said it remains concerned about his limited understanding of the factors that lead to his criminal behaviour.
Board: “You have a strong desire to seek recognition, be the centre of attention, and crave excitement,” they wrote.
