Scientists Replicated the Energy System That May Be the Secret of Life's Inception

Dutch researchers are trying to synthetically reconstruct the basic building blocks of cells.

Building a Synthetic Cell (BaSyc) has put out two papers detailing methods for creating synthetic mitochondria and cellular processes.

The hope is that if we can reconstruct these basic building-blocks of life in a laboratory, it may shine light on how these components came together on Earth billions of years ago .
