Alberta has played an outsized role in ISIS , with residents “overrepresented” among Canadians who went overseas to join groups like ISIS , a study says.

More women who were caught in Syria have returned to Alberta than any other province, police documents show.

The RCMP has launched at least two investigations into Alberta residents who joined ISIS , named Project Séance and Project Soldar .

Aimee Lucia Vasconez , 40 , is a single mother, living in an Edmonton apartment following her release last year .

Aimee Ali and Yazan Kalouti were neighbours of neighbours Helena Carson and her husband Yazan .

Ali and his wife were found at a gun range firing military-style rifles with illegal, overcapacity ammunition clips.

Ali had told family members he was moving to the Persian Gulf to live in a Muslim country, but that appears to have been a cover story.

Ali was assigned to a brigade for foreign fighters and underwent a month of training, the RCMP says.

Aimee MacMillan and her husband were told Ali died in a car accident in Qatar , but Qatar has no record of such a death.

The RCMP says Ali was in fact killed in Syria while fighting as a member of the Islamic State.
