Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says the province is preparing to appoint part or all of the new board next week .
Smith suggested Alberta is looking to boost the size of its rainy-day Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund by finding a new investment strategy for the $25-billion fund.
Smith did not say whether the province would direct AIMCo to make a wholesale change to its investment approach.
AIMCo has added more than $1 billion to the heritage fund in excess of its benchmark, analyst says.
Alberta ’s Finance Ministry said in a previous statement that the corporation is a “preliminary step” to grow the fund.
The province will be putting “at least a few board members” in place next week .
