JPMorgan Chase , Boeing , Dell and The Washington Post also announced plans to require some employees return to the office five days a week.

Inflexible policies could derail efforts to recruit and retain underrepresented workers, experts say.

Pinterest, which allows employees to choose where they work for roles that can be done anywhere, said it experienced a 90 percent surge in job applications the week following Amazon ’s in-office mandate.

Pinterest said since it launched its flexible work model, it’s been able to hire more diverse talent and women.

Some workers are finding ways to create flexibility for themselves.
