Howard Beckett once aspired to be Unite ’s general secretary himself.
But after rival Sharon Graham secured the job in 2021 , he resigned after facing misconduct proceedings.
Beckett argued he was a victim of unfair dismissal and took his case to an employment tribunal.
Last month that panel threw out his claims and lifted an order protecting his anonymity.
The tribunal heard reports of Unite allegedly using “inappropriate and improper tendering processes” to hire Flanagan Group .
Flanagan was arrested in January 2021 on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery.
The builder says it was awarded the contract fairly.
Beckett denies misleading anyone and contends that the Birmingham finances were reported “at all material times”.
Howard Beckett's claim for constructive unfair dismissal was dismissed unanimously’ last month .
The tribunal ruled that although there were “many potential criticisms” about the allegations against Beckett “there was substance behind them” Beckett is appealing against this judgment and plans to continue his legal action against Unite .
