tax cuts TrumpThe Times & The Sunday Times
•Six ways Trump will upend the US economy
66% Informative
President-elect has given himself a year to halve people’s energy bills.
He is expected to sign into law a renewal of sweeping tax cuts that are due to expire in 2025 .
He has also pledged to deregulate industry, push for lower interest rates and impose steep tariffs.
Trump has called tariffs “the greatest thing ever invented’ - but countries around the world fear the ripple effects of any potential trade war.
Tariffs would also hit parts imported to the US for assembly within the country, driving up the price of goods made from those parts.
Trump has suggested the president should have a say in determining interest rates.
Economic logic behind mass deportations has also been questioned.
44 per cent of agricultural workers are undocumented, meaning their removal would constrain the supply of foodstuffs’ Potential side-effects’ of a mass deportation plan include upward pressures on labour costs and a detrimental effect on the nation’s potential economic growth rate’.
