•‘God is in the country now’: meet the evangelicals rejoicing at Trump victory
57% Informative
White evangelical Christians have long been an important base for Republican Party leaders.
But Trump is the first of them to be seen as a quasi-religious figure.
Trump has managed to form an unlikely alliance with white conservative Christians despite his multiple marriages, hush money payment to a porn star, allegations of sexual misconduct and other misdemeanours.
At Peachtree’s First Baptist Church , where worshippers were avowedly anti-abortion, it did not go unnoticed.
Madison Slay , 25 , said some Christians had a “hard time” voting for Trump because he was not hardline enough on abortion.
Many at the church support his policies to cut tax, boost the economy and cut immigration.
