Residents in Martindale are asking why the City of Calgary ignored over 150 calls to 311 about fireworks being set off with little to no regard for safety.

Alleyways and street corners throughout the neighbourhood were still littered with used roman candles and larger pyrotechnics.

At one point, Calgary International Airport along with NAV Canada considered closing an active runway because of the proximity of the fireworks.

According to the city, setting off fireworks within the city limits is illegal and could result in fines up to $500 .
