•Observatory finds local 1.1 ºC increase in 20 years, twice as much as predicted by climate models
89% Informative
Meteorological data recorded over the past two decades by sensors of the Roque de los Muchachos astronomical observatory facilities point to a rise of 1.1C in the average temperature.
This is more than double the increase predicted by climate models for the same area, and even more than expected for the next 20 years .
There is no evidence that the changes detected in the meteorological conditions could affect the operation of the telescopes or increase the time they will have to remain inactive due to inclement weather in the coming years .
"These results are further evidence of the worrying pace of global warming," says Lluís Font .
