She shut down comments on her social media platforms after seeing a lot of abuse online.

Simon : "Some of it started to be directly related to me as a woman and as an Indigenous woman,” she said.

In the end, teaching civility — even in a digital form — starts at home.

“As parents and grandparents, I think we also have to teach our children what this platform is all about, because it has its good points. It’s not all bad,” Simon said.
