The new spacesuit that will go to the moon sometime in the 2030s looks similar to the ones worn by some of the Apollo astronauts in the 1970s .

Called the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit , the new suit is based on the original lunar space suit developed by NASA in 2019 .

The Milan -based fashion brand Prada contributed “its expertise in design, materials, and sewing techniques” to make a functional suit capable of withstanding the extreme conditions of the lunar surface.

The AxEMU is the opposite of SpaceX's sleek Extra-Vehicular Activity (EVA) suit.

SpaceX’s sleek EVA suit is built for an entirely different type of mission.

Unlike the SpaceX EVA, the AxEMu is focused on mobility and comfort.

The Z2 suit is specifically engineered for Mars missions.
