There’s No Pride in a Dick Cheney Endorsement

Tim Walz and Kamala Harris have been touting the endorsement of Dick Cheney on The Daily Show .

Julian Zelizer : The Cheney family is unpopular across the political spectrum except for partisan Democrats willing to forgive and embrace any Republican who turns against Trump .

He says the decision to constantly play up this endorsement is fantastically counterproductive to non-Arab-American voters.

Zelizer says it's hard to imagine a bigger middle finger to the massive Arab American population.

David Gergen : Bush - Cheney administration's war on terror involved warrantless wiretapping, torture.

He says Bush and Cheney came up with novel legal theory that suspected terrorists were not prisoners of war but “enemy combatants” Gergen says they were held in a no-man’s-land where they could be indefinitely detained.

Gergen writes that Cheney continued to publicly advocate that torture practices should be brought back for many years .

Julian Zelizer : Dick Cheney was instrumental in the Bush - Cheney administration's embrace of neoconservative foreign policy goals.

He says he was also involved in the Iraq war , Afghanistan , Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Zelizer says he had no compunction about misrepresenting what intelligence agencies told him.
