The Tory Right is making the same mistake again on the question of ECHR membership.

With increasing fervour, we are told that leaving the ECHR is the silver bullet to fixing our migration crisis.

The way in which we have chosen to apply European human rights law in the UK was a choice made by British politicians namely Tony Blair and Jack Straw , through their 1998 Human Rights Act .

We also need to completely review our domestic human rights architecture.

Don’t let anybody tell you that this issue can be fixed with the single stroke of a pen and don’t let politicians get away with short-term, simplistic thinking. This issue is simply too important.
