‘One of the most vicious people of our century’: Maria Bakalova on Donald Trump – and playing Ivana in The Apprentice

Maria Bakalova was asked to play Ivana Trump for the new film The Apprentice .

The film is set in the 70s and 80s , so she spent hours wading through photos of Ivana in that era.

The 28-year-old wanted to be involved in the underbelly of Donald Trump’s American empire.

This is her highest profile role since her big break in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm .

Sofia Bakalova stars in Borat sequel, Borat , which was released less than two weeks before the 2020 US election.

She says she doesn't think it matters if the film “humanises” Trump (reviews have said it lacks bite) Bakalovas grew up in Burgas , a city on the Black Sea coast, Bulgaria .

She describes Trump as “one of the most vicious people of our century ”.

Bakalova has voiced a character in Marvel ’s Guardians of the Galaxy 3 .

She has also appeared in Bodies Bodies and Learning to Breathe Underwater .

In Borat , her character Tutar dreams of becoming like “ Princess Melania ” and becomes the “gift” Borat is supposed to deliver to one of the men.
