Pierre Poilievre sidestepped a question about whether an Israeli strike against Iran 's nuclear facilities could lead to a direct war.

The Conservative leader said it would be “the most dangerous and irresponsible thing in the world” to allow Iran to use those facilities to acquire nuclear weapons.

He made the statement moments after he was reprimanded in the House of Commons for claiming that Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly was pandering to Hamas .

Joly also questioned Tuesday why Poilievre allowed Conservative MPs to remain in his caucus after they met with a controversial German politician from the country’s populist anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany (AfD) party — an incident that the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs flagged as “deeply” concerning. “Clearly what we’re seeing is that Pierre Poilievre is about double standards and he’s about himself,” Joly said. “He’s unfit to govern this country.” With files from Star wire services.
