Serial killer Harold Shipman timed his suicide in prison to ensure his wife received a bumper pension payout.

Prison records showed Shipman , who killed himself on the eve of his 58th birthday in 2004 , planned his death so his wife would get the maximum pension payout of a 100,000 lump sum and 10,000 a year.
