A chemical compound found in African wormwood could be effective against tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis -- caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis, or Mtb -- is one of the world's leading killers among infectious diseases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention .

There are about 10 million cases a year globally, with approximately 1.5 million being fatal.
