Why Smartphone Makers Choose the Wrong Processors

Nokia launched their first Android smartphone with a strangely low end Snapdragon 430 processor.

The processor is arguably the single most important part of your device.

Most customers don't actually know what's best for them, so as a product manager, you have to pick your specs not only to create the best possible user experience, but also to create a spec sheet.

Apple is uniquely positioned to do this by only selling flagship devices and designing both the SoC and operating system themselves.

Other smartphone makers simply don't have a brand that's strong enough to pull off the same thing.

I don't even blame the smartphone manufacturers for this for a change.

I think it is all on the incompetent chip makers who can't explain to the average user what the benefits of using one chip over another are.
