77% Informative
Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS (pronounced Choo-cheen-SHAHN -ATlAS), is now coming down the home stretch.
The final hurdle for the comet will come on the afternoon of Sept. 27 , when it arrives at perihelion — the closest point in its orbit to the sun.
To date the comet's nucleus looks to be healthy and intact and only one side is being exposed to sun.
Tsuchinshan-ATLAS could shine as bright as second magnitude.
Best chance of catching the comet in the dawn sky will come on Monday morning, Sept. 30 .
Visibility of the comet will continue into the opening days of October , but thereafter, views will shift into the evening sky.
A clue to what might be seen for its evening performance might be revealed by its tail.
