•Elevated lead levels found in cinnamon products, report finds
82% Informative
Consumer Reports: Elevated levels of lead have been found in 12 of 36 ground cinnamon products and spice blends.
Three of the products exceeded a proposed cutoff set by the American Spice Trade Association and 12 exceeded a more stringent cutoff level set by New York State .
Cinnamon may have a higher lead level risk because cinnamon trees grow for years before their bark is harvested, giving them more time to absorb lead in soil.
