67% Informative
Nigerian government critic Mahdi Shehu shared a video of a massacre in Burkina Faso in 2024 .
Shehu claimed 150 people were shot to death in Nigeria ’s north-west Sokoto state.
However, the footage was filmed outside a rural town in the small town of Barsalogho in the northern part of the country.
Residents in Barsalogho , forced by the Burkinabè army , were digging defensive trenches on August 24, 2024 .
JNIM claimed it only attacked soldiers and militia members excavating trenches and killed nearly 300 , describing all the victims as fighters, not civilians.
The UN said “ around 200 ” people were killed, but the collective of residents said the death toll was nearly 400 .
