China currently has the lion's share with 30 nuclear reactors under construction, followed by India , Russia and Turkey .

In 2023 , Nu Scale Power canceled its Idaho project, a first of a kind small modular nuclear reactor power plant, after costs increased more than 50% .

Despite those setbacks, many see nuclear energy as an essential component needed for the world to transition away from fossil fuels and reach net 0 carbon emissions.
