The Department of Commerce and NOAA announced $101.5 million in funding across 12 awards.
The funds are made possible by the Biden-Harris Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act .
These 12 awards are to expand equitable service delivery and support the modernization of the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) Regional Associations .
NANOOS will use this funding to support regional coastal resilience in Washington , Oregon and California by investing in better detection of harmful algal blooms, hypoxia, marine heat waves and similar hazards.
The funds will also help to build educational centers to improve resiliency by engaging and educating particularly vulnerable coastal communities.
