•A recent big tech plan for carbon removal is at the center of a major climate change emissions debate

Google , Meta , Microsoft , Microsoft and Salesforce are pushing ahead with a new approach to CO2 removal and storage.
They recently announced the formation of the Symbiosis Coalition to jointly create an "advance market commitment" for nature-based removal credits in the carbon market.
The aim is to contract for up to 20 million tons of removal credits by 2030 .
Symbiosis Coalition will speed and deepen the development of nature-based carbon-capture methods.
The emphasis on verifiability is, in part, a response to a recent spate of PR and legal headaches resulting from companies' overzealous or unclear climate claims.
"This project presents a significant risk of greenwashing," says climate expert.
