Jagmeet Singh pulls up his 2022 deal with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to support the Liberal government.

Singh says he is cancelling the “supply and confidence agreement” 10 months early because the Liberals cannot be trusted to fight or win.

Singh could introduce a non-confidence vote or vote for any motion the Conservatives or Bloc Québécois could present.

The move does not automatically trigger an election because the 24 NDP members of Parliament could continue to support Trudeau 's minority government.

Singh 's move comes after a summer in which senior representatives discussed next steps with party members and whether now was the time to pull out of the deal.

The deal secured advancements on a series of progressive policies in exchange for Singh ’s support in votes of confidence in the Commons and in committees on a range of budgetary and key policy matters like dental care, pharmacare and federal anti-scab legislation.

The deal was meant to secure parliamentary stability, but it also boxed Singh into an increasingly precarious political position.

Singh ’s decision to stand by Trudeau while simultaneously claiming to keep him in check did little to boost the NDP 's fortunes.

The arrangement did give the fourth -party-status New Democrats a tantalizing taste of what governing might be like, they too felt pressure inside the deal.
