Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry signed into law requiring public K-12 schools as well as public universities to prominently display the Ten Commandments in all classrooms.

The ACLU 's position is that while freedom of religion is protected by the Constitution , the First Amendment also states that Congress shall "make no law respecting an establishment of religion" The ACLU says the Louisiana law is blatantly discriminatory.

Other conservative states, such as Florida , Oklahoma and Texas , are also trying to promote Christianity in public schools.
