•Sulfurous acid detected in gas phase under atmospheric conditions for first time
88% Informative
Researchers at the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS ) in Leipzig have demonstrated the existence of sulfurous acid ( H2SO3 ) under atmospheric conditions in the gas phase.
Theoretical calculations suggested the formation of H2O3 as a possible reaction product of the gas-phase reaction of OH radicals, which are formed in the troposphere primarily from ozone and water molecules.
