•Pennies to heaven: NASA launches 2 cents to space station

U.S. one-cent coins were launched on the "S. Francis R. ' Dick' Scobee " Northrop Grumman 's 21st Cygnus cargo spacecraft.
The two pennies were a rare addition to the uncrewed capsule's 8,200 pounds ( 3,720 kilograms ) of cargo.
The pennies are going to be used in what's called the "Screaming Balloon " demonstration.
The farthest-flown penny landed on Mars in 2012 .
The penny, a 1909 " VDB " cent, was mounted to the calibration target for the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) on NASA 's Curiosity rover.
The current pair may "enter circulation" aboard the space station.
